Unhealthy options, poor choices, workers not educated about allergy, they over promised

There are some good restaurant options around but most are fast food and expensive

Does your college handle food restrictions as you expected when you decided to attend?

Not at all what I expected

Have you had a reation from eating in your dining hall?

YES

Lots of cross contamination, workers weren’t careful enough and I expirenced symptoms

Did you register your food restriction with the disabilities office? If yes, describe

Yes we went through the proper paperwork

Are there resources to help with nutritious, safe dining (e.g. dietician)? If yes, describe

Yes, but never responded to my emails

If you were in charge of dining, what would you change? Would your school be open to suggestions?

If I was in charge I would have more simpler meals ex chicken and veggies. And I would have a separate grill for people with allergies

Describe your biggest challenge managing your food restrictions at college and how you deal with it

My biggest challenge is eating in the dining hall and finding a good option each day. Some days I am able to find a good meal and other I end up making my own food in the microwave at my dorm

Advice for Incoming Students:

Housing:

Did your food restrictions impact your housing decisions?  Any dorm recommendations

I did not have an option had to stay in dorms. Get a microwave and fridge

Dining Halls:

Any advice for managing dining halls?  Favorite dining halls? Any to avoid?

Ask cooks to change gloves and wipe down area

Meal Plans:

Describe your meal plans over the year(s). What's mandatory? Any suggestions? 

Freshman year we are required to have meal plan. Three meals a day and dining dollars

Dorms:

Any advice for eating in the dorms? Favorite snacks? Places that deliver? 

Door dashing is great! Outback Steakhouse, chick fil la, jersey mikes, Texas Roadhouse, and qdoba are my favs

What should students do before school starts or when they first arrive?

Talk to dining manager and nutritionist

Socializing:

Advice on managing parties or dinners out with friends?

Try and figure out where you are going to dinner and research menu before or suggest places to eat that have gf options
